Beyth, according to Klein's Etymological Dictionary of the Hebrew Language, means house, home, and family. According to Scripture, beyth is not just a home or house in the limited sense of a house that you live in, but also in the broader sense of a family, clan, tribe or dynasty, such as the house of Dawiyd or the house of Yisrael. Below are some examples of the various usages.

 

Beyth YHWH [house of worship] - I Shemuel 1:7, "and so he did year by year, as often as she [channah] went up to the beyth of YHWH, so she provoked her. and she wept, and did not eat."

Beyth Yisrael [whole nation before division] - Wayyiqra [Leviticus] 17:10, " ' and any man of the beyth yisrael, or of the ger who is staying in your midst, who eats any blood, i will set my face against that nefesh that eats blood and will cut him off from his people.' "

Beyth Yisrael [Israel] & Beyth Yahudah [Judah] [northern kingdom and southern kingdom] - YirmeYahu [Jeremiah] 11:17, " 'and YHWH tsebaoth, who planted you, has spoken evil against you, because of the evil of the beyth yisrael and of the beyth yahudah which they have done to themselves, to provoke me to anger by burning incense to baal.' "

Beyth of Slavery [dynasty of slavery] - Bereshiyth [Genesis] 13:3, "3 mosheh said to the people, 'remember this day in which you went out from mitsrayim, from the beyth of slavery; for by a powerful hand dedi brought you out from this place. and nothing leavened will be eaten.' "

Beyth [tribe] - BeMidbar [Numbers] 17, "16 (17:1) and dedi spoke to mosheh, saying, 17 (2) 'speak to the sons of yisrael, and take from them each a rod, for a beyth of a father, from all their princes, for the beyth of their fathers, twelve rods; the name of each you do write on his rod. 18 (3) and the name of aharon you will write on the rod of lewiy; for one rod, for the head of the beyth of their fathers. 19 (4) and you will place them in the tent of meeting, before the testimony, where i meet with you. "

Beyth Yosef [Joseph] - house of Joseph as in a specific tribe: Shoftiym [Judges] 1:22, "and up went the house of yosef, they also, against bethel; and dedi was with them."

Beyth [clan] - Shoftiym [Judges] 8:27, "and gideon made an ephod of it, and put it in his city, even in ophrah. and all yisrael went whoring after it there, and it became a snare to gideon and to his beyth."

Beyth [family line] - Shemoth [Exodus] 1:21, " because the midwives feared elohiym, he established baththiym [families] for them."

Beyth [home] - HaDebariym [Deuteronomy] 6:7, " 'and you will teach them to your sons, and will speak of them as you sit in your beyth, and as you walk in the way, and as you are lying down, and as you are rising up.' "
