SILVER SCROLL - One of the oldest sources of the name YHWH is a silver scroll, that was found in a silver amulet. It was discovered in an excavation in Tel Aviv. It took several years, before they could safely unroll the silver scroll that was inside. This is the oldest known Scriptural reference. It dates to the 7th century BCE. This places it in the First Temple Era. The passage on the sheet of silver is that of BeMidbar [Numbers] 6:24-26, “ ‘YHWH bless you and guard you; YHWH make His face shine on you, and show favor to you; YHWH lift up His face on you, and give you shalom [peace].’ “ This is referred to as the “Priestly Blessing”. The name YHWH is not in the modern Syriac squared Hebrew letters, but in the paleo-Hebrew. Therefore, the name YHWH will be written similar to the writing below.
